Theater has been a vibrant part of life at Yale since 1925, with the University’s celebrated School of Drama providing professional training and theatrical productions of the highest caliber. Indeed, the Yale School of Drama is one of the nation’s most prestigious and successful training grounds for all professional theater disciplines, from playwriting and acting, to design, directing, dramaturgy, management, and production.

Angela Bassett, Christopher Durang, Charles S. Dutton, Paul Giamatti, A.R. Gurney, Elia Kazan, Rocco Landesman, William Ivey Long, Santo Loquasto, Frances McDormand, Paul Newman, Liev Schreiber, Meryl Streep, John Turturro, and Sigourney Weaver are only a few of the many celebrated artists who began their careers as drama students at Yale.

Throughout the academic year, students create their own productions, affording the public an opportunity to experience the future of the American theater today. Evening and matinee performances are held September through May.

The Yale Cabaret, founded in 1968, is an entirely student-run theater that presents a popular series of shows in an intimate, club-like setting complemented by dinner and beverages. Open to the public, the Cabaret runs from September through May, with two shows nightly Thursday through Saturday.
